The puzzle of a drowned continent has mystified the metaphysically inclined and perplexed scholars for over two millennia. With our own rapid “magical” advances in communication, New Age book fans can now enjoy a massive list of publications theorizing about the mystery of Atlantis, both non-fiction and novels.

There are more ideas concerning what that realm was like and where it was located and how the lost continent might be encountered than practically any other of the many stories involving prehistoric superior cultures. Indeed, the topic of a Utopian culture which was destroyed in a cataclysm has engaged the imagination of generations precisely for the reason that it holds so much meaning to the quester after knowledge.

Prominent author of the Dialogues, Plato, first began to write chronicling a mythical continent, called Atlantis, during the height of his own Athenian civilization. According to Plato, the lost Island had been in the Atlantic Ocean and thrived until more than 10,000 years before his time.

New Age icon Edgar Cayce described Atlantis as a large land mass, about the scale of Australia. According to the prophet’s inspired account, the Atlanteans had mastered powerful psychic qualities and technologies, and gave rise to the peculiarly similar solar-worshiping civilizations of the ancient Egyptians and the pre-Columbian Americans. The subject is often related with past lives and auras, and is frequently alluded to in writings about World Rebirth prophecy.

Theories about the true whereabouts of the ruins vary widely from the coast of India to the New World, though, of course the most popular possibilities which are European islands, especially Sardinia and Malta.

The world may never know the actual details, but the literature seems to indicate: human kind has achieved high levels of advancement rising and falling in a cycle of development and fall, perhaps in a recurring pattern, in the forgotten recesses of that which we commonly consider as being birth of society.
