Getting indexed by Google is definitely an important part in promoting any website nowadays. But, there are techniques to get indexed faster. The number one rule, believe it or not, is to NOT submit to Google via their submission pages. Doing so, will put you into a queue in which you will have to wait several weeks. You don’t want to do this because there are other ways to get indexed much faster. The main way to get indexed is naturally by having Google visit your site through a link. The link can be anywhere although it is more likely to be reached by Google if it is on a site which is crawled a lot. The more established the site with your link is, the faster you will probably get indexed. It isn’t very hard to find a site like this and you don’t even have to spend any money to do so (even submitting to a few popular directories or social bookmarking sites can get you indexed).
The Digital Point Forums are an example of a good, free site where you can put your link. Just add it to your signature (Digital Point doesn’t use no-follow for signature links so Google will follow them) and wait. I have seen posts by members of that community (which I am a member of, my username is myp) who have gotten indexed by Google within hours of adding their link to their signatures and this without having any other links to their site. If you aren’t a member of Digital Point you can sign up (it is a great community for all webmasters), but there is a waiting period of 7 days and 10 posts before you can add signature links.
There are also a couple of others ways to help get your site indexed. I’m not sure whether the following methods actually work, but I have read articles suggesting that there is no doubt on the matter. The first of these methods is to simply search for your url through Google. The other method is to add Google Adsense to your site and wait for Google to come check it out. These methods may work, but you don’t have to do them to get indexed, you can just use the backlink method I described in the earlier paragraph.
The best thing to do is build a few backlinks and just not worry about it. If you continue to work on your site, Google will find you. Just remember, don’t submit to their site (especially not more than once because that may drop you in the queue), let them find you.
